About

Born in Israel in 1982, Meytal Blanaru is a Brussels based choreographer, dancer and the founder of FATHOM HIGH Dance Practice. Since creating her first solo Lilly in 2008, she developed a personal movement research that deeply altered the way she moved and perceived the body. Inspired by the Feldenkrais method, her curiosity to create a fusion between Feldenkrais and dance led her to slowly build a movement technique which she calls FATHOM HIGH, which serves as a base for all of her artistic endeavors.

In 2011, she created her second solo AURORA, which was selected to the prestigious AEROWAVES Platform in 2015, and toured extensively across Europe, Asia and the Middle East (2011 - 2018). Between 2015 and 2018 Meytal created a trilogy of creations that deals with the theme of memories: SAND, a piece for 10 young dancers, commissioned by the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance; Followed by ANITYA, a piece for 8 young dancers, created in 2017, commissioned by DanscentrumJette/Danske platform; sealed by her creation WE WERE THE FUTURE in 2018, that was selected as the winner of the French CDCN Co Production award, offering a vast network of CDCN theaters in France that support and program the piece for the season 18/19. In 2020 Meytal created a new solo piece Rain, followed by Undivided (2021). In 2021 Meytal was invited to create Ray - a commissioned piece for The Scottish Dance Theater. Next season Meytal will start a new creation commissioned for the Icelandic Dance Company, as well as prepare for her next solo piece titled Dark Horse.

As a performer Meytal worked and collaborated with Samuel Lefeuvre/Groupe Entorse, Lisi Estaras/les Ballets C de la B, Damien Jalet/Eastman Dance Company, Roberto Olivan, Clara Furey & Martin Kilvady. In 2014, she assisted Damien Jalet in YAMA - a creation for the Scottish Dance Theater.

Meytal is also a certified Feldenkrais teacher. She is devoted to the promotion of the Feldenkrais method within the dance field. As a part of this initiative she regularly teaches FATHOM HIGH classes and workshops, with the aim of bringing awareness to the huge potential of Feldenkrais and neuroplasticity when applied into dancing. She teaches regularly in different companies and schools such as Carte Blanche, The Scottish Dance Theater, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, P.A.R.T.S , Charleroi-Danses, DanscentrumJette and other schools in Europe, Canada and Israel.
